Liesbeth van Bemmel, founder and farmer of Voedselbos Benthuizen, transformed a field into a thriving food forest where members can harvest, plant trees, and enjoy nature. This winter, they planted many new trees and hosted various activities, including guided tours and events. Liesbeth was inspired by the negative impacts of modern lifestyles on nature and personal health, leading her to create a solution that benefits both. She believes that caring for the planet improves personal well-being and restores our connection to nature. Liesbeth's training program helps others start their own food forests. She emphasizes the importance of integrating with nature and shifting values from monetary wealth to ecological richness
Arbon Earth combats climate change by combining kelp and bamboo to maximize carbon sequestration. They have developed floating Oceanpods made from bamboo and biodegradable ropes, allowing kelp to grow and create micro-ecosystems that enhance biodiversity through Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA). These Oceanpods, deployed offshore in the Atlantic, support marine life and, once mature, the algae sinks to the seabed, sequestering carbon for thousands of years. Arbon Earth conducts fundamental research on ecosystem impacts and scaling logistics to enhance their method's effectiveness. Founded by Magnus Willner and Carl Lindberg, Arbon Earth collaborates with scientists and companies to scale their innovative carbon removal technique, aiming to significantly mitigate climate change.
Carl Mintjens is planting bamboo in the view of his furniture making company. Always searching for ways to make his production process more sustainable, Carl has chosen to pioneer with bamboo farming in Belgium, starting with this first plot in the Kempen region (Blommerschot village).
GreenSand is the worlds’ first sand and rock trading company purposely deploying olivine sand for CO2 uptake to reverse global warming. With 15 years of experience, greenSand have their proprietary carbon accounting solution, that shows exactly on a map where and when the olivine sand is applied and thus the carbon is sequestered.

Oyster reefs once thrived in the North Sea, covering up to 30% of its floor. However, 150 years ago, oysters were a cheap, popular protein source. Overharvesting led to their near extinction, devastating the ecosystem. Oysters are vital; they protect shores from erosion, boost biodiversity, remove excess nitrogen, and filter water. Oyster Heaven aims to revive these crucial reefs before it's too late. The team of scientists developed the Mother Reef, a biodegradable, climate-friendly base that helps baby oysters attach and grow. We've tested this successfully in the Netherlands and Denmark, proving its efficiency. Partnering with local fishermen, we provide new income opportunities as they plant Mother Reefs, benefiting from improved ocean health. Our cost-effective approach makes large-scale marine restoration feasible at just €0.25 per oyster. By selling the ecosystem services oysters provide, we fund further projects, creating a sustainable cycle of ocean restoration. Join us in bringing oyster reefs back to life.
In Voorst in Gelderland, four hectares of grassland are steadily changing into a sustainable and richly varied nature area, much of which will consist of (edible) forest. The idea behind Bosnodig is simple, but there is an unprecedented power and beauty in it. Bosnodig shows what we seem to have forgotten: the forest as a source of life. It is a social, educational and recreational nature place, but also a source of food, inspiration and connection. For now and future generations.
